Abwehr branches

General Hans Oster, Deputy Head of German Armed Forces Intelligence and Head of Abwehr Z

The Abwehr consisted of three operational branches (Abw I, Abw II, and Abw III) and an administrative branch (Abw Z). In very rough comparative terms, the three main branches were functionally similar to MI6, SOE, and MI5 respectively.
